A special selection from the 4th Istanbul Design Biennial, which was organised in 2018 by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts and sponsored by VitrA, has been travelling along Europe over the past months. A continuation of the 4th Istanbul Design Biennial – A School of Schools, the exhibition is curated by Jan Boelen, artistic director of Z33, co-founding artistic director of the research programme Atelier Luma and curator of the 4th Istanbul Design Biennial, with Nadine Botha and Vera Sacchetti. The two iterations feature over 90 interdisciplinary practitioners and once again investigate the evolution of design education. The exhibition design once again bears the signature of Aslı Çiçek.
The first stop of A School of Schools was Luma Arles, an interdisciplinary cultural centre in the city of Arles, France, where the selection was presented between 2 May and 26 May 2019. The exhibition was also a part of the Guest Program of Luma Days #3, a yearly forum of art and ideas which ran from 22 May to 25 May 2019, presenting public events, conferences, professional workshops, displays and art installations.
A School of Schools also travelled to Belgium this summer with the collaboration of Z33 – House for Contemporary Art and C-mine, a creative hub in Genk where the exhibition opened on 28 June, and will run until 29 September. The Time School exhibition, curated by Ils Huygens (Z33), will be presented in autumn 2019 together with the opening of the new building for Z33.
More information on the exhibition at C-mine can be found here.
